It may be hard to believe someone would sacrifice their family for their own benefit but during times of hardship, this can happen. Specifically, this was all too known during the Holocaust. One survivor, Elie Wiesel was separated from his mother and sister. The only family he had left was his dad. During his time in Auschwitz, Wiesel had to go through many hardships to survive. He recalls his experiences through a memoir that he wrote. In the memoir Night, the author Elie Wiesel uses three characters to convey the theme that it is wrong to put oneself above relatives/ family in times of hardship.
