Why Harriet Tubman is a Hero
Harriet Tubman was born in Dorechester County, Maryland.1820-1825.
The exact date or her birth is unknown. Harriet being born as a slave had a huge impact on what she would do later in her life. All through her life, she showed heroism. Harriet Tubman is a hero because all of her life, she risked her life to save and help others with theirs.
Harriet Tubman was born and raised as a slave. But when she escaped slavery, it started the first act of heroism in her life. Harriet wanted to help her friends and family escape slavery like she did. Harriet served as a nurse and cook for the union in the war. Giving food and health care to hundreds of wounded or sick. But she was also a spy too. From her time working on the Underground Railroad, she knew the land very well. She would gather soldiers and raid rebel camps, sometimes freeing even more slaves in the process. When ever you needed help back then, Harriet Tubman would answer your call.
After years and years of saving, freeing, and treating people. Harriet settled down on her private land she got from the senator of Auburn. But even then, she found a way to continue helping her people. She donated part of her land so former slaves could build houses and churches, so they may have a place of their own. She raised the money so she could build schools for the children. She eventually gave up a majority of her land so family and friends of hers had a place to live.
Harriet Tubman died of pneumonia on March 10, 1913. Harriet was buried with military honors from her role in the civil war and her constant help, written on her grave was “servant of god, thank you”. No doubt, Harriet Tubman is a hero because she gave, risked, and dedicated her life to make sure others may live. Harriet Tubman taught everyone that you can really make a difference if you
