The Harry Potter series consists of seven books all written by J.K. Rowling. Within Rowling’s books, where the fanciful exists, there resides the young wizard Harry Potter. Throughout Harry’s life, he has to deal with his haunting past along with his assimilation into the Wizard world. Harry’s struggle deals with values such as equality, courage, as well as love. The most significant value within the Harry Potter series is equality because through its institution conflicts are resolved. Most predominant case is the Wizard relationship with Muggles. A Muggle in an individual who possesses no magical qualities like those found in Wizards. Before the start of each school year Harry is forced to live with his Muggle aunt Petunia. One house elf in particular is the Malfoy’s servant Dobby. The home life Dobby has to endure is brutal, leaving him unsatisfied. Within Rowling’s second novel Dobby claims: ““Dobby had to punish himself, sir…Dobby almost spoke ill of his family,…””(14). When Dobby informs Harry of his plight, Harry realizes that there is an injustice within Wizard society. The discrimination of house elves becomes a burden on Harry’s conscience .To end Dobby’s torture Harry decides to take action. In an attempt to aid house elves during Rowling’s fourth book, Harry, along with his friends, create an organization. ““It’s S-P-E-W. Stands/ for the Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare.”(224). Once Harry assists Dobby it ensures his loyalty because he feels as though he is an equal.
