Millions of people across the world love to hallucinate while staring at strategically placed ink shapes printed on mass-produced bundles of neatly pressed and cut pieces of dead tree bark. This activity is otherwise known was reading books. Not usually how someone would describe reading, is it? As you may have thought, reading is so much more than just that slightly unusual description. Those ink patterns possess the ability to conjure up whole new universes in which we can get lost in for days, as well as memorable new fictional friends or enemies who can occupy our thoughts just as often as real people do. So without further ado, I hereby present my top 5 brain-simulating travel-size getaway portals, otherwise known as books.
First of all, I would have to admit that my favorite book series of all time is a rather generic favorite to have, being J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series. The forever best-selling, wildly famous collection may seem familiar to many of you. The series is centered around a boy named Harry Potter -- who could have guessed?-- who discovers that he is a wizard after approximately 11 years of putting up with his neglective and slightly abusive foster family. He then travels to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where he has various adventures with his new friends while being pursued by Voldemort, the Dark wizard who had killed Harry’s biological parents and had fallen from power after attempting to kill Harry, who miraculously survived.
