When I visited Harvey Mudd I felt an immediate connection with the campus and wanted to spend my time exploring it. I wanted to learn in its labs and tap into the minds of the amazing researchers present. At Harvey Mudd I felt at home and felt an intellectual vivacity to which I could contribute and from which I could feed off. Walking by the different dorms, I knew I would make friendships with people with whom I could discuss the latest biomedical journal or the origin of mass. I want to gain a base in biology so I can obtain a master’s in immunology, but I believe it is important to learn about physics, chemistry, math, and the humanities as well so I can approach problems from different angles, communicate effectively with many different people and see the world as interconnected. Having attended two different high schools- one of approximately 500 students, and the other of 1,200- I have acquired first-hand experience of important characteristics in schools. In the smaller school, I enjoyed discussing science with my friends for the fun of it. We all pursued our interests together. We respected each other, and advanced our own knowledge and ideas. In contrast, at the larger school a community of fierce competition was nurtured: inventive ideas were never discussed, and students never shared their unique ways of solving problems, for fear that another student would steal the idea and take the credit. I found this difference inhibited overall advancement because people couldn’t build off each other's ideas. And as a result, I would like to spend my college years at in an environment more akin to the first than the second. Harvey Mudd’s commitment to collaboration and honor will help ensure
