In the modern day, it is expected to love and understand each other, but the reason why hatred exists is never explained. The crucial details focussed on world literature approaches the idea that the people of the world are the same and they need to tolerate each other. The short stories What, of This Goldfish, Would You Wish, The Lottery, and the seminal document Texas vs. Johnson all allude to this philosophy. While reading these stories it is easily determined that the meaning of them is to tolerate others, but most importantly they implement what causes people to not abide by others. This implementation shown in the two short tales and government document explains how indignation is the cause of fear and evil in the world. The issue focused on “What, of This Goldfish Would you Wish?” is to not jump to conclusions. In this story, there exists a Journalist Yonatan who is questioning people. Once he arrives at the main character Sergei, he spots his magic talking fish. As Yoni reaches for this fish Sergei strikes him dead in fear he will lose his friend and has to use his last wish to bring him back to life. Everyone in this village loves The Lottery, except the people getting stoned. The way this story connects to the overall theme is by the people having the fear of losing their life to a sacrifice they realized is silly. This allows for people throwing their families under the bus right before they die.
