Increasing costs all around the globe due to economic downfalls is making this issue even more challenging. It is vital that we have some focus on revenue, but we can’t lose focus on the costs of running a business. In health care this can be very challenging because of all the changes involved with the government, in laws regarding health care reform. “Understanding the total costs of services will allow the redeployment of resources which provide a higher payback, or will facilitate the elimination of those resources altogether.” (Hughes, 2011).
This question represents at least half of the medical community, and makes people question the intended and unintended consequences in a profit - driven health care system, the supposition of quality health today, and whether they

Summary of “The American Healthcare Paradox” “The American Health Care Paradox” focuses on health care and how the United States is suffering compared to their peer countries. The United States has spent billions of dollars in health care and the problem is still growing. The government is responsible for not following or ignoring the issue that we suffered with, in today’s society the healthcare system is failing drastically. The health care system has been a problem for several decades now, even though it seems that things are getting better it’s not.
Direct and limited reimbursement plans are different. Direct expense reimbursement plans designate reimbursement of all expenses that are reasonable within the sales effort of salespeople (Johnston & Marshall, 2009). Limited expense reimbursement plans allow for a pre-set limit of expenses (Johnston & Marshall, 2009). The pre-set limit of expenses can be reimbursed for specific expense occasions or provided as a one time expense budget payment. The type of reimbursement plan that would work best for the MedTech Pharmaceuticals company would depend upon the goals of the company.
Although the US is technologically advanced and has some of the highest caliber medical professionals in the world, compared to many other industrialized countries, it has one of the lowest outcomes in regards to quality of care. Moreover, it has some of the highest overall medical costs (Panning, 2014). In the US, low quality care and high costs have resulted in fragmentation of the healthcare delivery system. Fragmentation of services often results in patient experiences that are poor, with less than desired
In the film Escape Fire the Fight to Rescue American Healthcare, there were many insightful examples of why our Unites States healthcare revolves around paying more and getting less. The system is designed to treat diseases rather than preventing them and promoting wellness. In our healthcare industry, there are many different contributors that provide and make up our system. These intermediaries include suppliers, manufacturers, consumers, patients, providers, policy and regulations. All these members have a key role in the functionality of the health care industry; however, each role has its positives and negatives.
A further problem associated with the costs of Obamacare is the enormous overhead which the production, maintenance, and general administration of the program requires. As Dan Mangan points out, the overhead costs associated with the development and implementation run upwards of $270 billion. In developing this point, Mangan writes, “The overhead cost [of Obamacare] equals a whopping 22.5 percent of the estimated $2.76 trillion in all federal government spending for the Affordable Care Act programs during that time . . . In contrast, the federal government’s traditional Medicare program has an overhead of just 2 percent” (Mangan, 2015). To a considerable extent, the massively large overhead that has historically come to be associated with Obamacare comes from the
In order for a business to get the upper hand, it would have to lower its prices. Other businesses would retaliate by also lowering their prices, turning down the overall price of healthcare (Cannon). As seen in Europe and Canada’s socialist healthcare systems, government healthcare reduces the quality of health services and greatly increases the wait times for elective surgery (Rogoff 75). The lowering of quality of medical services is due to the lack of any market drive to make it better. Instead of a business selling medical technology in order to make a return, the technology is handed out through government healthcare.
When one thinks of the health care system, words that usually come to mind are safety, protection, quality care and the like. We live in a very progressive, very industrialized country as Americans. We have made many technological advances in our sciences. In other words, we are a developed country that provides many opportunities to those who reside here. The foundation of our country is based off of equality, fairness, and justice.
The real debate is how can we accomplish the goal of universal healthcare in the most affordable and sustainable way. The United States is evaluated as a wealthy country, yet there are more penurious countries who provide health maintenance, paid through higher taxes. “In the United Kingdom and other European countries, payroll taxes average 37% - much higher than the 15.3% payroll taxes paid by the average US worker” (Gregory). With this data, the only reform would be to end the private health insurance companies of dominant health services, and incorporate a single payer system. Conversely, it is factual that taxes will rise, but the implementation of universal healthcare will better the health of American citizens.
“Managed Care is a health care delivery system organized to manage cost, utilization, and quality (Medicaid, n.d).” Managed care is set up for easy affordable access to healthcare, the care is regulated so that needed procedures are performed on the patients within the limits of network providers available. There are many undesirable and helpful aspects of managed care. For example, a managed care system provides lower costs, quality service, employer opportunities to make available insurance for their employees, in network provider connections allowing for easy finds of doctors for the patient’s specific plan (Cyrene, n.d). There are however many disadvantages, those include not having the accurate provider or lack of provider for the required
As previously described, the United States is the country that spends the most money in health care in the world. For example, just in the year 2008, it spent 16.2 percent of its gross domestic product on health- care (Gaydos 700). Through the population health model, investment and policy decisions in areas such as education, income transfer, civil rights, macroeconomics, employment, welfare, housing, and neighborhoods would have a significant effect on improving a population’s health than increasing the spending on medical services. (Jonas & Kovner 92). Through this model, there might not only be a decrease in what is spent by the country in health care services, but also an improvement in many other areas that would improve the economy of
Health care cost has seen to increase gradually as years go by. This has been influenced by major factors such as political influence, emerging chronic diseases, new procedures that are coming up including the technologies being invented for treating illnesses, pricing of medicines and treatment is not regulated and when treating ailment their may arise repetition of tests or a patient gets over treated for a particular ailment. The cost of healthcare has increased due to chronic diseases such as cancer and diabetes etc. The lifestyle people are living in this generation has led to the development of diseases that are expensive to treat or has led to there being over treatment in such for a cure of a particular ailment.
White, of the Institute for America’s Future, matches economic theory in suggesting that there are, simultaneously, numerous benefits to be had. His argument seems to go against Brostoff’s statement suggesting that costs will inflate; rather, White says that costs will deflate not because of a push for efficiency but instead due to lower administration costs. He reasons that varied pricing leads to greater administrative costs and that “excessive payments lead to purchase of excess equipment which can then lead to excessive volume.” Furthermore, price controls, according to White, should lead to better cost control and benefit consumers as a collective stakeholder: they should witness greater transparency and accountability as health service providers have publicized pricing procedures. It is also seen to permit better research on care, practice, and resource usage patterns, although these are likely to change with the implementation of a price ceiling.
