This famous quote by Almodovar is one many critics and film lovers would disagree with. It can be seen from many of Almodovars movies that he depicts Franco in different characters. One of many where we can see this is ¿Qué he hecho yo para merecer esto? Pedro Almodovar is one of Spains most renowned artists, with many of his works known all over the world. Born in 1949 in a small Spanish village called Calzada del Catrava , Franco struggled in school to fit in with his peers and in 1968 straight after graduating he moved to Madrid , this is where he began to work. His works signify the acceptance and uniqueness that the Spanish culture encountered after Francos death. In some ways it is believed Almodovars films can be seen to refer to the history of the Spanish culture under Franco. Many of his movies have similar themes of feminism and can be portrayed as political freedom too.

¿Qué he hecho yo para merecer esto?Is a perfect example of Almodovars works that can clearly be seen to depict Franco and his traits throughout the movie. The film is about an over worked and overtired housewife named Gloria who lives in a small apartment in Madrid with her two sons, one gay and the other a drug dealer and her abusive husband Antonio.
The film is a typical Almodovar film which shows his peculiarities and sudden plot twists. From the beginning ,in my opinion Antonio is sculpted as an image of Franco from his irrational actions and lines.
Gloria works hard in a fulltime job cleaning houses and as a house wife however gains no thanks for anything she does. She works to afford to live as they cannot run the household on the small wage Antonio brings in from being a taxi driver and live off basic rations all year
