The drama Hedda Gabler by Henrik Ibsen tells the story of a woman bored with life who decides that the only thing that she finds entertainment in is attaining power over those around her and ruining their lives. Although this newly married woman who has just come off of a six month honeymoon trip with her husband and is implied to be pregnant, should be happy instead she is irritable and cold. She is a beautiful young woman; her husband, Dr. Tessman says that he is envied for winning her, yet the more and more we see of Hedda, it is clear that there is something unstable about her. Hedda Gabler consists of four acts but it is not a long play. There are only seven characters. There is Dr. Tessman, a specialist in reconstructing manuscripts. Elevested to reveal more of Lovborg and she says that she helped him to change and even write his book. She also says that she has decided to leave her marriage of convenience of a man who decided it was cheaper to have a wife than a housekeeper and go to be with Lovborg. The only thing is that he told her that once he was with a woman but left her when she threatened to shoot her and she is afraid that, that woman might come between them. What Mrs. Elevested does not know is that Hedda was that woman (Sturman). After Hedda finds out this news about the two of them she decides that her new game with be to play with their lives. Soon after Mrs. Elevested leaves, Judge Brack calls on the newlyweds. He has in the past admired Hedda but admits that he was never going to get married. Hedda complains that she is bored and that even her honeymoon was boring because all Tessman wanted to do was go through old manuscripts. Brack then suggests that he could entertain her and become an interested third party. Hedda is repulsed at Brack’s suggestion and brushes him off
