Helen Keller did things that seemed completely impossible at her time. Her childhood is well known by many people, but not her adulthood which is incredible too. Everyone should remember Helen Keller for her incredible childhood, life story, and only her great accomplishments so she stays an inspiring figure. Helen Keller had an absolutely incredible childhood, especially for the time. She was born in June 27, 1880 in Tuscumbia, Alabama (Biography). In 1882, she became deaf, blind, and mute due to an illness she had (Biography). Helen was one of two daughters of Arthur Keller and Kate Keller. Her parents tried multiple people to get Helen help, but none of them worked. Eventually, they came around to Anne Sullivan, a teacher that will be determined to teach Helen to communicate and make her a young lady. She began teaching Helen by using finger letters to teach her words like “doll” (Biography). This is an extreme challenge for Anne because Helen can’t see or hear. She relies on her senses. Anne continued to teach her, but she wasn’t really grasping the concept and Helen would throw major tantrums. Her parents made it difficult to teach Helen because she was spoiled by them. This was very frustrating because Anne was trying to teach her basic manners. Anne became frustrated and moved to a cottage isolated from the rest of the family so Helen could focus on Anne’s instructions (Biography). Most people only know about her childhood. Her childhood alone is a truly inspiring story and stands as an inspiration to people all around the world. What she goes on to do in her adulthood with her disabilities is even more amazing. Despite this, most people only know about her childhood. Even in most schools, they teach the students about her childhood, not her adulthood. This story leaves her as an amazing icon an figure to people everywhere to look up to. This would be a leading reason to why some things are left untold about Helen Keller. It is safe to say her adulthood is just as much of an inspiration as her childhood, but her activity with the socialist party should be left untold to most people. She was heavily criticized for her involvement with the socialist party and she was publicly ridiculed for it. This does not seem like something someone would want to know about their inspiration. Some newspapers even wrote articles on how they think she did it for attention (Biography). This damages her image as an inspiration and it isn’t too important about her
