During the Hellenistic Period there were many new creations and developments is all aspects of society. To start, there was a dramatic increase in the amount of literature that was available. Sadly, most of that has not survived to today. The mass amount of new literature spawned new genres of stories and novels that led to a vast enjoyment by the peoples of this time. There was an even a new genre of play brought to the theatre called “New Comedy”. “Plots were simple: typically; a hero falls in love with a not-really-so bad prostitute who turns out eventually to be the long-lost daughter of a rich neighbor” (Spielvogel 102). This new style of play cast out the idea of political themes and only had one goal, entertain audiences.

One of the new ideologies at this time was the idea of a heliocentric universe. The idea that the sun is stationary and the Earth rotates around it. Another development in this time was Euclid’s book titled Elements. It was a “systematic organization of the fundamental elements of geometry…and was used up to modern times” (Spielvogel 104). Lastly for science, Archimedes was very important for his discoveries in mathematics. He worked with geometry, discovered the importance of pi, and created the science of hydraulics.

“The scientific foundations of medicine also made considerable strides in the Hellenistic period” (Spielvogel 104). The idea of stressing natural explanations and cures for diseases came in this time, and the importance of anatomy, and the understanding of the human body were found in this time period.
