Jingle, scream, crash, and silence was what Helmuth heard for the last few days of his life. Helmuth is a boy who died in the Holocaust time period. The book called The Boy Who Dared, written by Susan Campbell Bartoletti is one of the greatest books ever that goes on in the Holocaust time period. The Holocaust is a time period between 1933-1945 when Hitler persecuted the Jews. Helmuth Hubener, a boy who was German and part of the Hitler youth, is the boy who dared to speak out. He had cared so much for everyone else that in spite of horrific circumstances, he was the one who tried to make it right. Helmuth Hubener spoke out anonymously by making leaflets, or notes. While Helmuth is in the cell, he hears a scream. It was coming from another cell. Then there was a crash, bang, and the jingle of keys. Helmuth starts to pray for the person who was taken from there cell, because it was a Tuesday, and the executioner works on Tuesdays.
So in conclusion, this book is one of the most sad, dreadful books ever written during the Holocaust. Remember that Helmuth Huebener only wanted to speak the truth, but instead he got hurt just for speaking the truth. THE TRUTH! Helmuth always did have hope, even when the odds were turned against him. Helmuth Huebener died on October 27, 1942 because he was executed for, yet again, speaking the truth. Helmuth broke the law, was afraid every time he saw someone who was in the army, yet he still did it anyway just to get the truth out.The book The Boy Who Dared was written by Susan Campbell Bartoletti and is one of the saddest stories ever written and people out in the world should read it
