James Madison wrote the first drafts of the U.S. Constitution, co-wrote the Federalist Papers and sponsored the Bill of Rights. He helped with the Democrat-Republican Party with President Thomas Jefferson.
For instance, his tone plays a large part in the essay “What’s an Indian Worth These Days?” (Taylor), along with other distinct literary devices. Even the way the essay starts off, “You may have not noticed it yet, it’s so subtle , but trust me, it’s happening … a lot of mainstream Canadians are under the impression that many of us are substantially well off” (“ What’s” Taylor 263). Taylor immediately starts the readers off with letting them know that this idea is not a fact at all.
In battle, there are many ways to be put in the wrong position. A few erratic decisions can cause lifelong problems. In “The Red Badge of Courage” Stephan Crane shows the many situations in battle during the Civil War in 1860. Henry Fleming, also known as “The Youth,” made many notable decisions that would consider him a coward rather than a hero. Henry demonstrates a coward because he ran during the battle, deserted the tattered soldier, and lied to the other soldiers.
General Robert E. Lee, the General-in-Chief of the Confederate army was one of the greatest generals in history because he was an expert in traditional warfare, showed innovation and tact on the battlefield, and remained an honorable man. Through protecting his troops, using successful military tactics and his desire to communicate with his commanders, Lee outshined all opposing generals. Lee brought new views and tactics into the militay world. Although success was not always the outcome, Lee was an expert at understanding the abilities of his own force. Robert E. Lee demonstrated many traits and actions of a successful american general through his strategies, expertise and ideals.
I feel that the Nature vs. Nurture concept takes on a huge role into play with this book. The nature concept is how we biologically develop. The nurture concept is how the environment influences our development. The way that Atticus raised his children with morality and equality, really influenced them. When they hear about the court case and Tom Robsinson being defended by Atticus they go to watch the conviction.

Circumstance. That is what drives people to make decisions that would either be viewed as poor or brilliant. In the stories The Crucible by Arthur Miller and In Cold Blood by Truman Capote, the main characters are motivated by circumstance. The way a person is raised through out their life can greatly affect how they view the world, and how they choose to live in it. This choice affects how they interact with other people and how other people interact with them.

“Vernon Little was described to me as something of a loner; a boy with few close friends, given more to playing on his computer – and reading” (pg 56). Vernon Little, a reader can describe to you, as a character that follows the life of a teenage boy living in a modern American society. Vernon falls into a confusion after being accused of being his best friend’s accomplice in a capital murder. Vernon witnessed his best friend, Jesus Navarro, murder sixteen of their classmates and then pull the trigger on himself. After the tragedy, answers and vengeance were wanted by the townspeople, and since Vernon was Jesus’s closest friend, he was taken into questioning.
In the book, To Kill A Mockingbird, the author Harper Lee shows that we shouldn’t be too quick to judge another person’s character based on outward appearance and the stories and rumors we have heard. The character Boo Radley is a perfect example of why we shouldn’t be hasty to judge. On the outside, Boo looks like a scary neighbor that lives just a few houses away. “.....he had sickly white hands that had never seen the sun. His face was as white as his hands…..”

Character traits help shape a person into what they are, there are ways to change them and become a better person. In the short story Charles, written by Shirley Jackson, a boy named Charles possessed many different negative character traits in which some include being, obnoxious, dangerous, and disrespectful. Charles displayed immature and unnecessary trouble for all the students and teachers. Being obnoxious means extremely unpleasant and Charles was just that in this short story. Charles possesses the trait obnoxious because all the children in the class were trying to listen to the story while the teacher would be unable to read due to the noise.
A Heroic Man With his last breath he died in the eyes of his soldiers a hero; however, heroism in Henry the IV Part 1 has many different interpretations. Shakespeare portrays heroism from multiple perspectives in order to demonstrate the different perceptions of heroism based on an individual’s morals and values. Shakespeare also explores the evolution of heroism, from that of a successful warrior, to an individual that is willing to put the needs of others before their own. Shakespeare intertwines honour and heroism into the theme of the play and we must consider both when determining the heroic value of each character.
