In 1913 Henry Ford created the first assembly line that affected America greatly. Ford was interested about how things worked and how he can improve them. He started off by making pocket watches then realizing that there wasn’t a high demand. Later on ford started to work with investors to build the first car. He started to produce different cars that were also simple.
The end of World War 1 left a big impact in economy. So, they decided to shift place to the economy transitioned from wartime production to peacetime production. They started that by running the economy to a better condition. Henry Ford’s company produced automobile and the latest of those product is the new Model T which were sold cheaply so many American could afford them. As a result, State funded programs to build roads and highways which changed the America’s landscape.
According to an encyclopedia source,by 1919,”the need for a planned system of national highways became discernible with the proliferating common use of cars in the United States”(Source #4).In addition, another source claims that “more than 90 percent of the nation’s households have access to automobiles”(Source #7).As directly indicated by these two sources, automoibles weren’t a luxury, but rather they were true necessities for many. While cars were being produced between 1908 and 1927,specifically that of Henry Ford’s Model T,many people now wanted to travel however needed an effective system that would be able to save them much more time. As a result, these very crucial interstate highways have ultimately expanded
Both inventions led to increased productivity and stimulated American economic development, Henry Ford patented the design and soon began to produce more cars than his competitors. Ford knew that in order to keep his employees satisfied he would have to raise their pay, so he did. From a measly two dollars to five he immediately noticed an increase work ethic , including the price reduction his workers could finally afford the new Model T and now had enough time to use it. This led to an increase in employees and wages, the automobile showed a renewed cultural outlook in America that would soon be spread to all neighboring countries. The invention of the airplane changed the United States forever, it changed the way that Americans would travel making it easy and affordable not to mention that it would help significantly improve the American economy through shipping and distribution.
One of the most famous of these men is Andrew Carnegie, who capitalized on the rapidly growing steel market. Carnegie used horizontal integration, a process where a company controls all factors that contribute to the production of their product, to build his steel empire [doc 7]. Carnegie’s business strategy, while earning him the largest and most successful steel company in the world, met the demand for steel that the industrializing United States required; but it was just one of the varying new ideas that stimulated industrial growth. Another exciting new idea was the assembly line, which was perfected by Henry Ford and his use of interchangeable parts. As the demand for products grew, the assembly line and interchangeable parts meant that businesses could cut costs while still producing more than ever by eliminating the
These cars had extra insulation filled with ice and other substances so that heat could not get in, and cold could not escape. This was revolutionary as to the fact that it helped transport everything more efficiently and allowed more things to be transported at all. Before the refrigerated rail car, it was hard to keep things good, and they had to be packed in certain ways, which meant you didn’t always get to eat things how you wanted to eat them. This helped prevent the transportation of living livestock, which prevented the decline in health of the animal, and cost less due to freight expenses. This benefited farmers because of the easy transportation of their goods, and less chance of their animal dying on its way to its next location.
Automobiles. Telephones. Lightbulbs. These were some of the major technological innovations created during 1865 to 1920. These creations impacted many Americans, even to this day.
There were many noticeable components that contributed to the advancement and growth of the United States such as: industrialization, the Great Depression, and war. Of the many occurrences, technology had the single greatest impact on the continued evolution of the United States. The new inventions, new discoveries, and new innovation led to greater economic growth and wealth that the American people experienced during 1920-1940. One invention that influenced and continues to impact American lives is the automobile. Kyvig (2002) has argued that automobile ownership tripled during the 1920s, and by the end of the decade four families out of five owned an automobile.
As time continued, America’s geographical landscape was champing, as well as its economy. After Tom Ford’s Model T, changes in the country had to be made to keep up with the increasing number of cars on
He is also known for introducing the assembly line to modern industry, which were and still are very significant because they enhance production by being able to split up- tasks between workers in order to keep production going and keep the needs for workers simply to basic skills. His cars were ones that many middle-class Americans could afford, so they sold very well and he made a lot of money. He introduced the famous Model T car to American society, and they became a legendary part of popular culture. He had an idea of mixing mass production of products with high wages to workers. This worked well for his company.
The economic revolution of the 1920’s differed from the 19th century for one huge reason - techonology. Iron, steel, and such resources were harnessed in a way unlike ever before. This led to the building of railroads, automobiles, and such great feats of machinery. With the power of steam, the use of oil, as well as electricity, production became not only more efficient, but faster. The industrial process was broken into minutes and parts, harnessing the full potential of the assembly line.
One thing that made the Model T special was that it was the first item to be made on a production line. The production line was a huge improvement on how things were normally made, allowing one person to specialize in one skill and do that repeatedly. It allowed for more precision and accuracy, causing customers to be more satisfied. The influence of the 20s in social, political and economic ways made it a big part of American
In the early 1900s Henry Ford had the idea that would revolutionise the way in which big businesses would run. This idea was know as the assembly line, a simple concept that would change the way of production forever, instead of one person building one whole product a single person would put one part of the product together and then the next person would do the next part and so on. Ford put this to practice in his car plant where he manufactured the Model
Henry Ford was the man who fused automobiles and the assembly line into the perfect mix allowing for faster production and better quality (“Henry Ford: Technology and Innovation in the 1920s | College Reading and Writing”). Another economic change was the great depression which affected america negativly. The great depression was a downturn in mondern economy. The great depression started on the stock market crash of October 1929 when the dow jones industrial average declined nearly thirteen percent (Richardson et al.).
The Civil War may have set over 4 million slaves free, but the Reconstruction Era brought a whole new set of problems. The Reconstruction Era was the period of time after the Civil War, in which the Confederacy was supposed to rebuild itself into a new and improved country, but that didn’t happen. Former President, Abraham Lincoln, had come up with new ideas to bring together the country. Those ideas included things, such as finding aid former slaves in funding education, healthcare, and employment, but before that could happen, on April 14th, 1865, John Wilkes Booth assassinated President Lincoln. The Reconstruction Era made America the way it is today by providing former Americans with the tools to use for success.
