The objective of this essay is to study and analyse the tasks undertaken by the interviewed manager, whether they are comparable or match those practices set by Mintzberg’s informational roles. Managers are best described by the roles they assumed and behavior that can be recognised by a position. (Mintzberg.H,1975). There are 10 key roles identified and commonly practiced by managers in Henry Mintzberg’s research.(Schermerhom, 2011). These roles are clearly classified into three categories namely informational, interpersonal and decisional roles (Schermerhom, 2011). First and foremost, monitor role act as a collector that provide vital piece of particulars that assist in developing of the company. For an example, Mr C have formulated a standard operating procedure for the staff to regularly update and adhere strictly to local laws and professional rules failing which their licenses will be compromised. Mandatorily keeping abreast and abide to the ever changing law and rules which affect their firm will definitely guarantee the firm’s continual survival. This information role also have a strong resemblance to Fayol’s management function which falls under controlling category. Fayol states that controlling functions are to judge whether task performed as planned and the achievement that have accomplished. He also mentioned that Malaysia is a multi racial country and managing superficial diversity particularly race ethnic is sensitive and to cautiously addressed. As the firm involves in diverse business activity, many departments were created to handle different tasks. They have the administrative office, data processing department, a mini legal department which seek advice from external legal firm, property sales and management department, site inspection team and a consultation team. Whenever the firm secured a contract to value big properties or prepare feasibility study for housing developer, Mr C will disseminate his planned concept and guidelines to relevant department for preliminary draft. After a given specified time frame, Mr C will call for a meeting where all relevant departments head will put up their written proposal and ideas. He also pointed out that different scope of works called for the services of different departments. Another worthy note he stated was the high quality of solutions concluded from the inputs of his multi talented heads of department to overcome any problem.
