Dionysus was the greek god of wine, theatre, fertility and celebrations. His father was Zeus, god of the sky and all olympians, and his mother was the princess of Theban, Semele. She was a mortal, making Dionysus the only god born of a mortal parent. Before he was born Semele was tricked by Zeus jealous ex wife, Hera, to have Zeus swear on the river styx to make a promise to Semele. Semele asked to see Zeus in his true form, though Zeus already knew what she would ask of him.

Title The painting “Hercules and Deianira” by Antonio del Pollaiuolo depicts a myth from classical antiquity, of the centaur Nessus abducting the maiden Deianira from her lover, Hercules, who pursues and kills the man-beast. According to legend, the centaur would pull one more trick before his death, convincing Deianira that his blood could be used as a love tonic; when she gives Hercules a robe soaked in the blood potion, he dies in a fit of agony, revealing the centaur’s wicked hoax. The artist chooses for the moment of depiction an instant of pursuit, as Hercules realizes his folly and gives chase to the abductor, bow in hand. “Hercules and Deianira” is massively successful at translating the emotional character of the scene, a moment wrought with anger and anguish, into a visual

Dionysus is the god of Vegetation, fruitfulness and wine (E.O.B.). He was one of many children Zeus had (E.O.B.). Many of them were not with Hera, including Dionysus (E.O.B.). Dionysus was depicted as being rowdy and “loud” (E.O.B.). Although, being that his personality is sometimes chaotic, he is still popular among the greeks, at the time, and influences culture today (E.O.B.).
Dionysiac values are vindicated by the illumination of the consequence of a mortal acting so impiously towards this god: a gruesome, violent death. Dionysus is more powerful than Pentheus, something the mortal does not reconcile, and he pays the price for this irreverence towards Dionysus. The people of Thebes do not understand than Dionysus is a god and does not abide by Earthly concepts of justice and fairness. The violent conclusion also serves as a means for Dionysus to exact revenge on the non-believers of Thebes in that if Pentheus hadn’t been excessive in his hatred for the Bacchae, and had joined Tiresias and Cadmus in their worship of Dionysus, he would have evaded a terrible amount of suffering.

Epictetus was a philosopher known for Stoicism. Stoicism is a Greek philosophy that teaches people to develop self-control and fortitude as to not have bad emotions. Many believe Epictetus was born in the 50s C.E., approximately in 55 C.E., in Hierapolis in Phrygia (modern day Turkey) and died approximately in 135 C.E. There have been no sources or records of his real name. Epictetus was born to a slave mother and therefore became a slave himself to his master Epaphroditus. There are no records of Epictetus marrying or having any children and most sources believe he lived to an old age.
Epictetus I really feel that quote is deep I will explain on that topic later on in the paper. He was really ahead of his time. I chose Epictetus because he stated facts in my opinion, also he was a slave, and he stands on what he believes. I feel like as a result of his stoic philosophy teaching that his thoughts live on even in today era. Let me elaborate with the slave accusations.

In a similar way, they both stood by their friends no matter the cost.
