Dionysus is the god of Vegetation, fruitfulness and wine (E.O.B.). He was one of many children Zeus had (E.O.B.). Many of them were not with Hera, including Dionysus (E.O.B.). Dionysus was depicted as being rowdy and “loud” (E.O.B.). Although, being that his personality is sometimes chaotic, he is still popular among the greeks, at the time, and influences culture today (E.O.B.). Dionysus’ story is very unique among most greek gods, and he has two origin stories that are very similar (E.O.B.). In all greek myths, he is said to be killed by Hera’s enviousness towards Semele (E.O.B.). Although, there are two different stories on how he was killed. During this expedition, Dionysus was not met with very kind visitors (Atsma). He had many skirmishes with villages, kings, and political leaders (Atsma). He would eventually conquer parts of India and teach them of wine or the cultivation of wine (Atsma). With this, he founded some towns based off of the cultivation of wine (Atsma).Before going through all of India, he gained a power that would help him become more forceful and wise (Atsma). At this point, has solidified his place with the gods, but there was one last thing that he wanted to do (Atsma). This of course would be to save his mother (Atsma). Dionysus would lead his mother out of Hades and gave her the name “Thyone”. They would rise to Olympus where Dionysus knew he belonged (Atsma). Dionysus’ story is truly interesting. It has consisted of a man that became insane, regained his sanity, wandered the earth, and redeeming himself by accomplishing many feats that would prove his divinity. I can see why so many people in ancient Greece appreciated and looked up to this god. I can also see why he has been so influential among western, but mostly, eastern
