What Nazis of Germany desired was the removal of Jewish existence from society, the world, and from history entirely. The horrific genocide would become more of a purge. He claimed that the Gestapo, German police, had stopped his train and started to murder all the Jews. No one would believe Moshe’s incredible, horrifying story. He was viewed as crazy. When the Nazis arrived, they gathered and over packed Jews into cattle cars to take them to concentration camps. They’d be taken to concentration camps in Auschwitz. Elie was separated from his mother and younger sister, but was able to stay with his father. He’d never see his mother or sister again. The first part of the process for Jews was the “selections”. This was the process by which Jews would be evaluated and determined whether they’d be executed or put to work. Ellie describes this moment of survival as mere luck and chance. Ellie and his father were supportive of each other. The love and support which Ellie had for his father is what motivated him to survive. He was dedicated to his father.
