Instead of converting the Aztecs to Christianity, Hernan Cortes committed genocide. Originally he traveled with an army of six hundred men to Tenochtitlan, to introduce the Aztecs to Christianity. In the end, he was a murderer in the eyes of the Aztecs and conquered the Aztec Empire. Hernan Cortes was a villain because, he was ignorant, manipulative, and ambitious. He slaughtered a nation and destroyed a magnificent city. Cortes was able to manipulate the emperor into letting him into the city. Lies were told and the emperor of Tenochtitlan was convinced that Hernan was an ambassador for Spain. Later on, troops were sent to go and seize Cortes and his men, (for he did not have permission to go to Tenochtitlan). The troops that were sent to detain Hernan and his crew ending up being persuaded into aiding them. There was gold up for grabs and they were intrigued by the copious amounts of it. Initially, the army of six hundred men was supposed to help convert the Aztecs to Christianity. Not once did he think about how his actions might affect the Aztecs. A nation was murdered because no one considered what would happen if someone found out they were liars. He only thought about himself and didn’t realize what mayhem might occur. Also, he didn’t realize that the Aztecs sacrificed for their gods, and not for their own personal gain. Since he did not know this, he thought they were sick and
