With Herodotus, he seems to write about the culture, diversity and people when telling stories in history. As he was growing up, he was exposed to many ideas of famous figures like Socrates. Also, due to his frequent traveling, he was able to observe many people, which in turn was able to help him in his writing. One example is the book “The Histories”, which had talked about not only the Greco-Persian war, but also the culture and diversity around the Mediterranean, so that he could get insight on not only the origin of the war, but the people around it. Also, since he grew up around the beginning of the war, himself was able to become an eye witness. Meaning with that sort of advantage, he was able to use himself when writing, which few before him could. Although both Herodotus and Thucydides both grew up at different times, the both where living during times of war. Due to the war, Thucydides also decided to write about it in his writing of the History of the Peloponnesian War. However, Thucydides was stricter on evidence and sources to give his stories serious facts. Due to him being exile, he was able to travel more and see both sides of the Peloponnesian war, which isn’t something that was particularly done a lot by other writers. Which was different from Herodotus, who based his stories on culture and diversity. His work and ideas brought him to create his most known book “The history of the Peloponnesian War”. In this way, Thucydides’ stories are seen to have more structure and is more informal than his predecessors.
