With age comes wisdom and the older you are the more knowledge you hold but for some it is the complete opposite! It seems for Hester Prynne the older she gets the more knowledge is drawn out of her but put into her young daughter Pearl. In many ways throughout the book Pearl has forces her mother to acknowledge she has sin and she is a sinner. As a baby Pearl would only smile down at the A on her mother chest, stick or throw things at the A and even make her own A (The Scarlet Letter). The young child knows her mother has not forgiven herself for the sin she has committed.
