A film and a story with two distinct plots may have their differences, but what about their similarities? In the film, High Noon, the main antagonist Frank Miller and his gang returns to town for revenge on Will Kane, the town marshal, for sending him to jail. Unfortunately for Will, no one volunteers to help him out; therefore, he has to fight them alone. “The Most Dangerous Game” is about Sanger Rainsford, a hunter who gets stranded on an island where a suspicious man resides. This man by the name of General Zaroff also hunts, but instead of animals, he hunts men. This story takes you through his fight for survival. In both the story and the film, they seem very different, like their conflicts, but in reality, you’ll find that certain parts are quite similar. “The right and wrong seem pretty clear here, but if you’re asking me to tell my people to go and kill and maybe get themselves killed—I’m sorry” (Foreman 315). This quote explains the theme of when it is acceptable to kill someone. This works for both the story and the film because both of the protagonists were in a position where they had to decide whether they should kill their opposers. The second theme they have in common is the self-doubt and fear of death. “Kane, writing at his desk writes Last Will and Testament” (Connell 325). This shows how Kane is starting to believe that he won’t make it out alive, so he decides to write a will just in case anything happens to him. Just like Will, Rainsford also started to believe that he would get killed. While running away from General Zaroff, Rainsford was debating on what his next move would be. Either way, he knew he was postponing the inevitable, which meant his death. Moving on from themes, another similar side of the film and story is how the characters’ personalities are
