“Welcome to Hillcrest Village” (n.d.) describes the neighborhood as “quiet tree-lined streets and whimsical looking houses, that makes you feel as if you are far away from the bright lights of the big city”. While true, (Fig. 1 shows the domination of residential land use in this area) it’s important to address who this seclusion, or privatization, is granted to and who it is denied to. Falling into Hulchanski’s (2010) City #1 category and classified as a High Income area by the 2005 census map, the neighborhood caters to predominantly wealthy Torontonians (p. 5).
