During the Holocaust there were many victims. Many of these victims pain will not be understood by modern day people. However, there are two records of victims who dealt with this great challenge. Anne Frank and Etty Hillesum both wrote diaries that documented their time surviving the Holocaust. Both Anne and Etty have their own separate opinions on the Holocaust, but Etty has more knowledge on the subject, which makes her diary entries more historically accurate. Anne did not have a choice because of the secrets going around in the Frank’s house to keep her calm. These factors contributed to the two different personalities of each diary.
Both Anne and Etty had similarities, which you can see while reading their diary entries. On Saturday, July 11, 1942 Anne writes, “. I don't think I'll ever feel at home in this house, but that doesn't mean I hate it. It's more like being on vacation in some strange pension. Kind of an odd way to look at life in hiding, but that's how things are. The Annex is an ideal place to hide in. It may be damp and lopsided, but there's probably not a more comfortable hiding place in all of Amsterdam. No, in all of Holland.” This shows how positive and innocent Anne is because she states that she does not like the Secret Annex, but remarks that it is an ideal place to hide in.

We have to accept death as a part of life, even the most horrible deaths.” Etty writes this at the final stages of her life, which like Anne is a very positive, especially on a subject like death, which she has accepted. Of course Etty isn’t always like this, but it shows how the Holocaust had effect on people's minds back
