To answer these people, we study history to learn from past mistakes and to appreciate to struggles and triumphs that got us where we are today. In order to learn, we must determine what historical significance is. Something is considered historically significant if it had a long lasting impact on many over time, but the term historical significant can also be used in a more narrow sense. Being born premature, moving to Texas, being color blind, earning my Eagle Scout award, and getting my first car are all historically significant to me and shaped me into the man I am today. Boy Scouts of America has drastically impacted my life in so many ways I could have never ever imagined. I never thought when I was in Cub Scouts as a Webelo I would ever become an Eagle Scout, but with the continued support from my family and friends I was able to achieve something that less than five percent of people who join scouts ever accomplish (National Eagle Scout Association, n.d.).
