The History of the Dividing line was written in 1841 by William Byrd. Excerpt one from The History of the dividing line talks about some of the first Englishmen who went to the new colony, expecting it to be a bountiful country with little work to be done. Most of these first adventurers either starved or were killed off by the Indians. Several expeditions after the first ended the same way and reduced the want to sail to the new world. People of high rank were invited to people the almost abandoned colony. Many were men of fortune.
