Comparing Hobbes and Locke Hobbes and Locke have many similar and different. some similarities are they both believed the natural state of mankind before forming a government is the State of Nature. Another is divine rights or social contract? They both go for social contact. Some differences are their ideas of government. Hobbes believed government is to protect ourselves from ourselves. Locke believed government is to protect our nature rights. Another where the sovereignty reside. Hobbes thinks it's in the ruler. Locke thinks it's in the people. Last is if people have the right to “alter or abolish” a government, rights of revolution? Hobbes says no. Locke says yes.
