INTRODUCTION
“Holes” is a great novel which engages the audience and creates an interesting story through Sachar's use of a variety of realistic characters, an interesting setting which engages one's imagination and the ingenious plot which has different sides to it.

Louis Sachar makes holes a great novel by creating a variety of realistic characters like Stanley and zero. Stanley is clumsy and obese and does not fit in with anyone. The students and teachers bully him, He then takes the blame for a crime he did not commit and chooses to go to camp greenlake instead of jail. Unlike Zero whose boy who is skinny and lives on the street with his mother and never had enough food to eat and never got to school because they had no money, He acquired his clothes and shoes from stealing from stores or finding little amounts of money. At camp green lake Stanley teaches Zero to Read and write while Zero helps him dig his holes. As time goes on Stanley grows stronger and his skin toughens and he is brought into the group and included more in the group, gains respect and gains the name “Caveman” which makes him feel like he is more like he has friends and that

The lake used to be full until a curse was put on it so It never got another drop of rain, then it started to dry up then one day it became dry and all that laid their was a large dry barren plain of red dirt and a camp was built as a camp for kids that were going to go to jail but could get given a second chance, The camp makes the kids dig 1 hole a day 5 foot deep, 5 foot wide everyday until the kids jail sentence is over the he gets to leave and rejoin the real world. The camp had no trees and they don't get any water for the night also the beds were made out of crates and they had no blankets to keep them warm and they stunk like off
