Economics is concentrated around the production, consumption, and transfer of wealth in a certain country. Within America alone, economics is a widely debated topic as well as a substantial matter in political debate. Trickle down economics gained popularity in the United States in the 1980s during the Reagan Administration, it is essentially an economic principle that advocates reducing tax on the wealthy as a means to encourage business investment in the short term. In Chaos or Community, author, Holly Sklar explores the wealth and poverty rates, not only in America, but also globally. Although it is notable that this article is not as formal as most, it still holds a considerable amount of factual information as well as providing the interested audience with cartoons and quantitative tables. Although Sklar may be trying to create a metaphor when saying, “If the U.S. government were a parent, it would be guilty of child abuse” (Sklar 15). This statement is actually shockingly true. As stated before, despite Sklar’s apparent lax tone, she continuously backs her words up with solid information. For example, her slight comedic route while discussing child poverty is followed with a frightening statistic that “... proportionately more children die before their first birthday in the United States than in 20 other countries” (Sklar 15). This really captures the audience 's emotions as well as appealing to their logic. In regards to rhetorical strategies, Sklar is successful in appealing to the audiences ethos and logos, as well as having a substantial amount of credible sources. This “formula” serves for an excellent article and one that I, as a member of the audience enjoyed gaining factual information
