In Waukegan, Illinois in 1992, Holly Staker, 11 years old, was raped and murdered while babysitting. An informant led the police to Juan Rivera who was 19 and a former special education student. Rivera was convicted of burglary and had an electronic monitoring at the time of the murder. When the investigators initially questioned him, he denied committing the crime. However, the interrogation continued and Rivera eventually confessed to the crime. He was seen having a psychotic episode after he had confessed to the rape and murder, but this was not taken into account.
