Chad Green 1/19/2018 A1 Holocaust: How Does One Say the Unspeakable? Holocaust is defined as a sacrifice consumed by fire. At the end of World War II Adolf Hitler, the leader of the Nazi Party accused Jews of being behind all of Germany’s problems. He said they were the reason they lost the war and they were the reason that heir economy was failing.
January 30, 1933 was the day that President Hindenburg appointed Adolf Hitler Chancellor of Germany, which was the beginning of the Holocaust (Google History). In Source A, a young Jewish girl, Anne Frank, wrote in her diary that the Gestapo was taking away Jewish friends and acquaintances and sending them away to concentration camps. She listened to the English radio to later find out that they were being killed and gassed. Source B reveals, that in the steps to genocide, people classified as different are prohibited rights and personal honor. They are referred to as “sub-human, while the Nazis referred to Jews as vermin” (Source B).

Holocaust vs. Japanese-American Internment Camps The Japanese-American and Jewish internment camps were brutal. During a normal war people were not usually placed in barracks and killed because of their ethnicities. The Japanese-American oppression began with the bombing of Pearl Harbor, after which the secretary of war was in charge and “took care” of them after they were placed in camps (ex. Order 9066.) The Holocaust was when Hitler decided to take away Jewish humanity.

The Holocaust was a period of time when Adolf Hitler spread his ideology. He formed a group called the Nazis which were Germans. They hated Jewish people and had the idea that Jewish people ought to die. 6 million Jewish people died during this period of time. The Holocaust started in 1933 and ended in 1945.
World war two was one of the most horrifying times. For Pavel Feiman and Krystyna Chiger that's true. They were both in the Holocaust. They both tried to escape death. Pavel couldn't escape.
The genocides of the Holocaust and Assyrian genocide share many similarities and differences throughout the eight stages of genocide. In both genocides lives were lost because of the actions of those who thought they were superior. The eight stages of genocide start at classification of the group to be exterminated and end at denying the genocide ever happened. The first stage is classification.
Over the course of World War Two, over six million Jewish people were murdered. Killing factories known as concentration camps were spread throughout Europe, and worked tirelessly to exterminate Jews. The deadliest of all was known as Auschwitz, and it is where a fifteen year old Elie Wiesel was taken in 1944. He remained in concentration camps until liberation in 1945. By the end of World War Two, Wiesel had lost his faith in God and humanity after experiencing unspeakable horrors, such as the execution of children and the death of his father.
Madison McDonald Dr. Travis Montgomery ENGL 2213-02 16 March 2018 Violence in The Aeneid The Aeneid is bursting with violent acts from the beginning to the end. The main character, Aeneas, constantly faces conflict from both humans and gods. Aeneas is a Trojan hero and prince who embodies pietas, driven by duty, honor, and devotion, which makes him an example of an ideal Roman citizen. Aeneas was called by the gods and determined to be a successful founder of Rome, but he faced complications along the journey. In each conflict along the way, Aeneas dealt with fighting and violence and could not find peace until the end.
In the epic poem, the Iliad written by Homer, several characters taking part in the warfare between the Achaeans and the Trojans are portrayed as embodying the heroic code of courage, physical strength, leadership, arete of value of honour, and the acceptance of fate. The heroic code is illustrated by the actions of the Trojan prince, Hector and the Achaeans strongest warrior, Achilles. Both of these characters display the Greek’s image of a hero, and can also let the reader discern what the society admires, looks up to and aspires to in its heroes. There are also characters who fail to be heroic, such as the Trojan “vivid and beautiful” prince, Paris. These characters in the Iliad illustrate the qualities that Ancient Greek society values.
The actions inspired by vengeance and justice in Homer’s Iliad shows how detrimental the effects can be on others. The Justice seeked by warlike Menelaus causes pain and suffering to many on all sides of the war. Paris by abducting Helen hurt Menelaus’s pride, “Menelaus had in mind taking revenge on the man who’d injured him” (Homer, Iliad 3. 26-27). Seeking this revenge Menelaus
The epic poem, The Iliad written by Homer shows the conflicts and events that occurred between the Greeks and Trojans during the Trojan War. Among both sides there are warriors who follow a distinct code, known as the heroic code. This Heroic code helps portray the characteristics of the warriors and their perspective on war. This distinct code is composed of many elements such as arete, acceptance of fate, honour, excellence in war, leadership, courage and power. These traits are shown within the main warriors, Hector and Achilles throughout the epic war poem and helps to guide their decisions.
The dramatically different ways in which Homer and Virgil depict defining moments within their epics, perfectly sheds light upon the different intentions of between their epics. Even in spite of Homer’s work serving as a clear influence to Vergil’s work, the varying intent of the two epics lead to a completely different story. In essence, the purpose for Homer’s epic is primarily to entertain the audience, while the other is to serve as a piece of political propaganda and affirm the greatness of Rome. Furthermore, the different depictions of the underworld, along with the imagery adorned on the shields also communicate another key difference,which is the author’s perspective on the purpose of life.
