Homelessness in America has become a big issue and if we don’t do something about it soon it can get worst. Homelessness can cause health issues, personal problems, and even death. Homelessness covers a range of topic such as substance abuse, mental illness, and domestic violence (Dworsky, 2009). In a study it said that the homeless population has one of the highest rates of adults in the jail inmates (Greenberg & Rosenheck 2008). In this paper I will be discussing the Cause and effect of homelessness as it relates to the Criminal Justice system.
So what is the cause and effect of homelessness as it relates to the Criminal Justice system. Why should it be addressed to all Criminal Justice professionals? This are just some questions that needs …show more content…

A homeless man is sometimes cycle in and out of prison and jails (Greenberg & Rosenheck, 2008). The elderly, youth, single male or female, and the veteran population are always at a high risk of homelessness (Dworsky, 2009). Not only have a woman become homeless after she suffer from domestic violence but a husband and their children too (Dworsky, 2009). In such relationships one of the parent usually becomes homeless. Some of the consequences of homelessness are loss of self-esteem, substance misuse, lack of health care, and the development of behavioral problems sometimes provoked by others whom interfere with their personal space. The effects of homelessness can be bad on their health and usually they don’t have health care. Just imagine sleeping in the cold, rain, or extreme heat under a bridge or on the subway. You can get a cold injury, have respiratory problems, tuberculosis, skin diseases and sleep deprivation. Also just imagine the dangers you may face on the streets such as physical and sexual assault. Sexual assault could happen to men or woman. The reconstruction of the labor force has squeezed the working poor down the social and economic ladder. A homeless person usually tends to alienate themselves from others and are usually misunderstood by society.
