Johana Martinez Professor Ziff English 1 A 13 March 2024 Connection With Language Have you ever read someone else's experience on how they found their language and felt a connection to the author? There are two articles I have read that made me feel a connection with the author’s experiences. The first article is by Malcolm X “Homemade Education.” His experience was him learning how to teach himself to learn words from the dictionary that could help him read better. He was having a hard time reading because he couldn’t understand the meaning of the words. It gave him motivation to expand his vocabulary and learn other things that he would be able to learn all in a dictionary. The second article is by Christine Marin “Spanish Lessons.” Her experience was her learning to admire and learn that both English and Spanish are something that defines her. She struggles with many criticisms from people for speaking or knowing Spanish. From her classmates and even her professors. She later learns the power of the Spanish tongue. Language allows people to communicate, share their thoughts, feelings, express themselves, but specifically language symbolizes what people's identities are. People go through a lot just to find and express their language. Learning how to use a language properly is difficult when you have grown up with a language used incorrectly, but you can improve it by reading and learning unfamiliar words. There are going to be people who will make you believe you are not able to express your language, but do not let that stop you. Especially when you want to learn a new language. Learn a new language and grow your skills. Let your language show who you are and be guided by your ability to learn and improve your
