A general belief is that how we perform in school is affected by the amount of homework that is completed, however research has shown this is not so. Homework is assigned to students to make sure that they are understanding the material that were gone over in class, it was traditionally thought of as a way for the teachers to give students something that they either did not get to or did not elaborate on in class. Therefore homework should be banned because it has not been shown beyond doubt to affect students test scores positively, and it puts to much stress on students, as well it does not allow them to spend time with their family and friends.The argument on should homework be banned is a constant battle all around the world. Large amounts of homework has been demonstrated to be a stressful component to a child's daily routine. A recent World Organization study found that 54% of fifteen American girls and 42% of 15 American boys say that they feel “pressured by school work.” This clarifies that about 50% of students are getting stressed about homework. For example in the article “Kids In Spain Rebel Against Homework, And Parents Are Their Biggest Boosters” said “Finland has a high salaries and high ranking students and the assign less homework.” This shows that they assign less homework and are getting better test scores and that homework does not affect student’s scores. In Finland students attend school for 3 hours and 45 minutes each day on average. In high schools in America students on average attend school from, 7.30am to 2pm. Students attend schools for 5 hours and 30 minutes if these time were the exact time. This shows that kids and finland are going to school half that time and still they are getting better test grades without the extra help from homework. As I said above the average load for homework in the U.S is, 18.5 hours a week. In finland the average workload a week is 2.8 hours on homework per week. This shows that they have less teaching time less homework and still are coming up with the better test scores. The study of OCD and how homework does not lead to good test scores. OCD means Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and studies have shown that homework does not lead to positive test scores. On the other hand people have argued that homework has helped their test scores and helped kids that do not pay attention or get the best learning support from teachers.
