Why are students graded on their effort and instead of their knowledge of their understanding not completion, not effort. Effort shouldn't be a grade since a teacher can't see you at home doing your homework and see how much your struggling and trying they can't do that so effort isn't a grade. What teachers are doing are wrong grading a piece of homework or paper for effort that's not it the answer is knowledge its tests, quizzes and projects its not effort or even homework. What really matters is students knowledge/understanding of the topic they are on not the extra practice that's for students to decide on whether they should do it or not. First let me speak upon how effort cannot be measured accurately since it is a thing only the student him/herself can grade.
We have told our teachers time and time again how stressful such instances of homework are on our lives. We have told them of our predicaments with juggling school, home, sports, and free time. When paid for good grades, students are no longer learning for a better future, but rather just for the reward of money. If the purpose of school is to educate, does the prize of cash take that away? From students feeling not needed pressure, to taking away the natural motivation to learn, to not remembering the material presented, students should not be paid for good grades.
The school use to start at 9am and it gets over at 3pm and then there is a tutoring program which running from 5pm to 8pm. The homework isn’t to bad because sometimes the teachers make us do it during class time and working on the homework with friends as a team work use to be fun. Why Students Shouldn’t Have Homework There are around 365 days in a year, and in a school year, there are around 180 days. From the beginning of the school year to the end, the most common thing that students least like, is homework. Coming home after a long day of school, then having responsibilities to do at home, not to mention some students have after school activities which take up around 2 hours if not more. Homework for students is a barrier that makes it difficult for them to have any kind of social life, or spend time with their family.
