Introduction In the modern culture of today’s society, sexuality is the epicenter of our attention. A large majority of individuals are enthralled by sex. Homosexuality has been a hot topic of discussion for several decades. With instant news formed by modern technology, any and all things are exploited furthering the subjection of social issues, it fuels the flame of a multitude of individuals, often creating many conflicting views that are brought to our attention. When interviewing Ryan about his sexuality, I was better able to understand this perspective from the sexual minority. Not only are they often exploited, but often are just taken at face value. With the biases ingrained in our culture, it is hard for many to open up to different lifestyles that differ from their own, creating animosity. When interacting with Ryan, he broke down some barriers in regards to how he defines himself in society. “I think not having the social constructs of not going after a female and “playing that role” (has) led me to try to fit into society in other ways, so I took on things like art, science, other things that people don’t normally do. I consider myself an odd ball in that respect. So I guess not fitting into those roles, being allowed to and already being a social deviant, has led me to another path that’s not similar to anybody else’s. I think when I use that word, (social deviant), it means not conforming to the norm of the social standards today.” By doing this, Ryan is defining himself in many other facets of life. The idea of these individuals being defined by more than their sexual identity can bridge gaps that have been placed in today’s culture. From my own personal experiences, I never felt like I needed to define myself by participating in other activities. I came to the realization that this almost seemed like a necessity for Ryan, making it a large part of who he is. Speaking from first interactions with Ryan, as he mentioned, does not come across as stereotypically “gay.” To better understand him as a person, I ask about any defining moment in his life that helped shape him as a person, creating who he is today. “I think my whole life kind of, and not at all it is difficult to pinpoint. Everything I do and everything we all do relates to how we fit into society. I don’t think there is one pivotal thing I have done or experienced, but somehow in the background stems from how I relate and interact to people. If I can show
