After reading The Outsiders, Much Ado About Nothing(MAAN), and “The Charge of the Light Brigade”(TCLB) we as readers are able to see how all three authors use honor to develop the theme. In The Outsiders there are two social groups: Socs and Greasers, and they hate each other. The Socs are always ganging up on the Greasers; the Greasers can’t take it anymore so they start to rebel back. The Socs try to drown Ponyboy but Johnny(Ponyboy’s friend) kills Bob(a Soc); this results in them running away and later they are honored as heroes for saving children from a fire. In MAAN Claudio and Hero fall in madly in love. Leonato allows Claudio to marry Hero. In the meantime Don John, Borachio, and Conrad try to ruin the wedding because Don John does not like Don Pedro(his brother who arranged for them to get married). To being, in The Outsiders Dally is able to honor his group the greasers by being the “leader” and sticking up for all of them. On page 19 it says, “Dally was waiting for Johnny and me under the street light…”. This shows that Dally cared for the people in his group even though he acted all big and bad. In MAAN Beatrice stays by Hero’s side at the wedding. At the wedding Hero was rejected by Claudio which in turn caused Leonato to pull her hair and Claudio to shove her. During all of this Beatrice is by Hero’s side and is comforting her and telling Leonato and Don Pedro that she was wronged. Lastly, in TCLB the British obey their leader. In this poem the British obey what their leader tells them and they go to war with the Russians with just swords while the Russians have cannons. While the Russians are killing the British one-by-one the British keep fighting because they honor their leader and follow that he says. Overall, the character help to develop the theme in The Outsider, MAAN, and
