The very first sentence of the chapter makes me believe that the setting is obviously in Oklahoma and a little while after the Oklahoma Land Rush of 1889. It makes me believe that because of the way that the narrator writes and him/her calling it “the red country and part of the gray country,” which is referencing the red, white, and gray sand often associated with the state. Later on in the first page, the narrator begins to describe a drought taking place. Perhaps the drought will last a long time and lead to the narrator and his/her family moving somewhere more viable. On the second page, the narrator describes “wheels” milling the ground, which leads me to believe that he/she lives

In the story The Outsiders written by S.E Hinton, there are two rival groups/ gangs, the greasers and the Socs. A young boy named Ponyboy explained his journey being a greaser and the sacrifices, consequences, and decisions he had to manage with. This story reminds me of William Shakespeare's story Romeo and Juliet of their similarities which are they gangs, fights, and loyalty and differences that are the wealthiness, behaviors, and between the two books. One of the similarities of the two books is the groups/ gangs, because in Romeo and Juliet there are the Montague and Capulets and in The Outsiders there are the greasers and the Socs. They are both enemies and try to sabotage and fight each other when every they have the chance to.
Loyalty is something different in “The Outsiders”, it's special. In S.E. Hinton's “The Outsiders”, the greasers show unusual & different ways of loyalty. Loyalty is defending one another from any problem. You have to defend one another if you're a greaser. “I killed him” (pg.56), Johnny said to Ponyboy.
In the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton the main character Ponyboy makes many important decisions, some poor while others smart. A prime example of this is when he chose to attend the rumble, even though he was stressed out and not in the right state of mind. The only reason that he even felt compelled to do it was because he felt like it was a way to get back at the socs, and honor his friend and fellow greaser, Johnny. He even said “ RIght then the most important thing in my life was helping us whip the socs” (Hinton 134). As all choices do it had a consequence, but this one was far worse than he could have imagined.
The novel “The Outsiders”, is about two gangs, the Socs and the Greases. The members of each gang show that they’re unified. The characters in the novel are united by living in the same neighbourhood and being in the same gang. The appearance and language unites the characters, they look the same and talk a lot like each other. Violence in the novel is very common, this unites the characters, by fighting together this shows that they will always be there for each other.

Hinton, tells the story of friendship between two different groups of teenagers, the Greasers and the Socs. True friendships can happen even when you aren't looking and come from opposite worlds. In the novel The Outsiders by S.E Hinton, it goes over the life of a teenager and the pain of losing your loved ones and only having your friends to rely on. All decisions made in the story were crucial in every way since it went over real life situations. One character who’s decisions were influenced by the gang members called the Greasers and the environment he lived in was Johnny. Some decisions Johnny made that were influenced by the gang members were killing the Soc, wanting to turn himself in, and saving the children in the burning church.

While they have conflicts with each other, the protaganist, Ponyboy, finds his identity outside of the gang. The important message of the story is that everyone has a unique personality that are developed by being in a group of people away from home, this identity can shape anyone’s way of life and the path they may take in the future. The outsiders is a book by ( S.E Hilton ) narrating the story of over the course of two weeks of a 14 year old boy . The novel revolves around economical class and depending on the clothes you wear , how much money you have or where you 're from you are either a Greaser or Soc . The story paints the picture of the gang Warfare between the east and west sides in the mid 1960s in a town . The conflict in the novel represents the division of the east at West sides.
