To everyone in the world, the American Dream is something so far, but somehow just out of reach. For “We Share Hope for the American Dream” many Caribbean immigrants desire to attain it, yet due to their color or some other reason for being discriminated, they can only attain a small piece “...We believe that you work hard for what you want, and are then rewarded with a piece of the American dream...We can’t become presidents, but our kids certainly will one day” (Thompson). With hope in hand, many Caribbean immigrants wait for the day when they will be seen as equal and be able to fully obtain the American Dream. In the Great Gatsby, and in the 1920s, people from outside of America and even U.S. citizens yearned for the American Dream, however those of old money could only achieve it. Now in the 21st century we still have the same yearning, and somehow it is still only the old money who get to achieve it. From immigrants to U.S. citizens, all people of America want the American Dream, to be able to buy things without worry, and live in such a way that there would be no fear. Both the Caribbean immigrants are seen as different and lower, in the 1920s, the new money also appeared in this way. Both groups also wish to achieve the American Dream, something that appears to be possible someday. The new money was discriminated by the old money while Caribbean descendants are being discriminated by other races and ethnicities. Although seen this way, both groups are truly one and the same as they are humans. No matter the circumstance or where a person is born, everyone deserves a chance at the American Dream and should not be held back due to some simplistic
