The poem, “Hope Is The Thing With Feathers,” by Emily Dickinson, is all about what hope is. I can infer that the main idea is hope is the thing that keeps people going. One detail that helped me determine this was when Dickinson said, “Hope . . . never stops at all . . . that kept so many warm.” By saying that hope doesn’t stop and that it keeps people warm, Dickinson is trying to establish a hopeful mood. To help her establish the mood Dickinson explains how hope is there when nothing else is; it is there on even the worst of days. By using these key details she makes the reader feel hopeful by showing them that they can make it through the bad days. The poem, “Resume” by Dorothy Parker, is about the reasons why a person shouldn’t commit suicide.
