How do you want to die? Hospice is an organization that provides end of life home care for the terminal ill. Hospice aims to enhance the comfort and quality of a patients’ remaining life, when they can no longer benefit from treatment. In simple terms hospice helps people die the way they wish. Most people have negative perceptions because hospice is often associated with death and have little knowledge to many service hospice can offer. The patients family views, professional view, and the race and cultural of the patients can affect the wiliness to use hospice.

This study found that most participants knew very little about hospice when referred and out of the eight categories participants made their decision to enroll on frequency of visit, payment, practical support, and emotional and spiritual support (Casarett et al., 2005). This 2005 study by Casarett and the other has two major faults, in which they only study and single hospice program and use cross-sectional research in a such a short amount of time and did not follow up with families after love ones death. By increasing families and patients knowledge of hospice and the service they provide gave them more confidence to enroll their loved ones in hospice care. LITERATURE REVIEW 2
