The film, Hotel Rwanda, clearly portrays human rights that were violated and various acts of discrimination. Before the genocide, the Belgians labelled the Tutsi as leaders because they were generally taller, skinnier, and more European-like. Although, after Rwanda gained independence from Belgium, the Hutu seized power and oppressed the Tutsi. The rights to life, liberty, and security and the right to participate fully in cultural life were transgressed during the film. Those in the ethnic group, Tutsi, were persecuted and feared death due to their culture. Every citizen in Rwanda had an identity card that stated their identity which caused many conflicts. The entire film’s purpose was to show the cruelness of the Rwandan Genocide. The Hutu were killing Tutsis because they intended to wipe out the entire Tutsi ethnicity group. In the film, Paul went out to find food for the refugees in the hotel. During this trip, he watched many of the Tutsi being beat and tortured to death. Later on, he even drives into a ditch and is surrounded by a field full of dead Tutsi citizens. Various countries could have supported Rwanda to stop the genocide but nobody stepped in. The world knew what was going on, but they still turned their backs away from the issue. People outside of Rwanda could have at least given exit visas to more Tutsi citizens, but many were not willing to sacrifice their time and money for the lives of others. Lastly, early warnings should have not been ignored. When the President was killed, peaceful countries and organizations should have reacted due to the great sign of violence. If these warnings were not ignored then the human rights violations may have been
