Beowulf is the main character in the epic poem Beowulf, He is a strong warrior who fought battles for the king of the city Hrothgar. Beowulf is the strongest and bravest warriors to ever live under Hrothgar. There are three major battles that occurred in the epic poem, Beowulf against Grendel, Beowulf against Grendel’s mother and the final battle was Beowulf against the dragon. So just in seeing who fought in the battles shows how many differences and similarities they posses as a whole. As the poem continues, Beowulf’s character changes greatly. The battles Beowulf fights in show how brave he is and that he is a true hero for the town, Beowulf does not care if he loses his battles. In the first battle Beowulf fights in is Beowulf against Grendel, Grendel is as strong as thirty men and does not use any weapons to fight his enemies. Grendel is a descendent of Cain and is known to be a very hard enemy to take out, but Beowulf does not care, he is brave and will fight anyone that stands in his way. The dragon is angered by a slave who steals a cup from him to try to free himself from jail. The sword Beowulf took to the battle was given to him by Hrothgar. Beowulf was a lot older now and he knew that he did not stand much of a chance, but he was not going to back down from him because that is not who he is. The men that Beowulf took with him to the battle all left him except for one which was Wiglaf. Those two fought the dragon and gave it all they had, however Beowulf was struck by the dragon and then was killed due to the poison the dragon had. Wiglaf was sent back the the cave to get the treasure for Beowulf and after Beowulf’s death they burned him in the building where he died with all of the treasure they battled
