How big of a role has social media played on the lives of people and society? In our generation the advancement in technology of social media has changed the way we viewed things. In the past people believed social networks like Facebook, twitter etc. was for communication but now people are using it for the wrong reasons. The use of social networks has become a huge part in many people’s lives, affecting them both physically and mentally. Although, they provide different resources social media has taken away skills of self-reflection, it gives us a false sense of connection, and it loses our privacy.

Americans may not realize that their self-reflection comes from what they expose on social networks, in particularly Facebook. Now a day’s people expect more from technology because of how much they depend on it daily. It distracts people from what’s really important and becomes ignorance to what’s really around us. For example in the Brian Jung article he explains, “while many businesses use social networking sites to find and communicate with clients, the sites can also prove a great distraction to employees who may show more interest in what their friends are posting than in their work tasks”. This is portraying a bad habit for not only people who have important jobs but anyone with social responsibility. The question is why is it such a distraction? People become immune to the fact that they know social networks will always be there to provide the entertainment they need. The addiction and distraction of what’s happening online is causing people to not care about their own life.
