Forced to live in the wilderness and make his own food, build his own shelter, and build many tools Brian learnt and changed in many ways. These changes were permanent his entire life. Brian changed to be a “new Brian” with his experience in the wilderness. Brian changed throughout his wilderness experiences which includes the changes in his view on food, he gained better observation skills and he also obtained survival skills. Brain’s observation skills grew and became one of the permanent qualities he equipped during his survival in the wilderness. Brian had a greater appreciation for food after his journey in the wilderness. We can see that in Hatchet it says that “Food, all food, even food he did not like, never lost wonder it's for him.” This is proof from the book that Brian had a great appreciation for food. Even though if Brian did not like the food he would still cherish that he at least had food. Besides it says that he never lost wonder in food. Food was everything for Brian. Before Brian was stranded in the wilderness (old Brian) he only ate hamburgers and chicken meaning he ate only the food he admired but, now Brian transformed to have wonder in any food even if he did not like it. In our next point Brian learnt to eat anything which was available and not only the food he liked. There was one time when Brian only had the eggs of the snapping turtle to eat. Even though he did not like it he still swallowed the egg because that was the only source of food he had at the moment. He felt like throwing it back out but he learnt to eat it because he was hungry and that was the only source of food he could eat at that time. Brian had to eat anything he found in the wilderness and that helped him to develop and change into eating anything available. Before his crash in the wilderness Brian did not eat a variety of food, especially food he did not like, but after his long journey in the wilderness he changed to eat varieties of food, anything he found.
