Everyone has been through a significant change in their life. At some point in everyone's lives, they grow, sometimes from goofy to mature or sad to happy. Sometimes it makes people's life either better or worse but for Edver in Forest World by Margarita Engle, it was a long process to get to the point where he could finally be happy. This essay will argue when placed somewhere new it can change someone into a different person. In Edvers case he was transformed by his travels to Cuba. Edver’s dad was one of the people to help Edver grow. Edver transformed into a new version of himself inspired by his experiences traveling from Miami to Cuba. His sister, Luza impacted him in a way no one ever did, “Then I realize the truth. I cannot do this alone. I need help from my sister and her weird ideas, all the magic realism, her own special, strange style of art with illusions clever enough to fool a trickster”(pg.162). Edver’s sister changes him into realizing he needs help. It is important that Edver has his sister with him because Edver did not realize he needed help but then later met his sister who helped him grow in different ways. When Luza first met Edver she felt sad because her mom never told him. Luza throughout the book has different ways of helping like her art. Luza inspired Edver to be determined and made Edver look at things in a different way. “All I have is Snoopy and courage”(pg.167).
