How Did African American Culture Affect The Middle Passage

The Middle Passage was when African-Americans were brought over to the New World. The African culture would kind of decrease because the slaves would have to drop their culture and pick up the American culture. The population of Africa would decrease because most of the Africans would be brung over to the New World or they would die before reaching shore.

The Middle Passage happened in the early 1500’s and it was when whites packed a lot of slaves (Africans) onto a ship and chained them. The ship went across the Atlantic to the West Indies and it lasted about three to four months to get there. The Africans were basically being sold to white people for slaves. Over half of the slaves did not make it across the Atlantic. They could pack more than 600 people onto one ship alone. They had about six square feet of space for 1 person. At this point the slaves had no further control of their own lives. The ships were in very poor condition considering the Africans could not take showers so the odor was horrific. They did not have fresh air because there was such little space. The Middle Passage was a part of The Triangular Trade, Africans were shipped to the new world. During the Middle Passage close to two million Africans died. For every hundred that made it to the New world, 40 would die. The new world's growth started at about 36,000 and went to about 80,000. Many slaves would try to commit suicide and some even refused to eat, when they could. They were fed only twice daily very small food portions. When an African American would die their body would be thrown overboard into the water. When they reached the New World they were fed and cleaned, they would be auctioned off to the whites there. When they got to the New World they had a chain around their necks, feet, and hands. The African population decreased during slavery because the whites were taking them all to The New World. The slaves were captured when they were out of their village so if they were caught their families would not know unless they were captured as well. Today there are not many Africans here in america, most are in other countries. A major impact on Africa during slave trade was immense. A lot of slaves made it to the New World but a lot of them died on the way to the New World because of bad conditions. After slavery the continent was left really underdeveloped. They were really vulnerable to other continents like Europe. After slavery Africa had a whole lot more happen to the continent. Africa lost a lot and was really behind on growth in kids and the life span was shorter than any other country. The African population is set to increase between 1950 and 2050. The population has been fluctuating throughout history. It has been effected in all ways of history. In 2015 the population in Africa has rapidly increased, by 2060 the population is estimated to be around 2.8 billion people. Overall after slavery the population in Africa was decreased and is now expected to increase between now and 2060. The African population now is 1.216 billion people are in Africa right now. Nigeria is the 7th largest country in the world. 12.5 million slaves were to arrive at The New World but only 10.7 million made
