Who knew one man could change the history of Peoria forever? Almiron Cole was born in Boston, Massachusetts. He is famous for venturing off to this new town called Peoria. He built a whiskey distillery all by hand, He is one of the most iconic People buried in Springdale, Mostly because of the witches circle he is buried in. It has stories of people being chased right into it by ghosts, it is also said that someone hung themselves from the tree in the middle of the circle. All in all, Almiron S. Cole was a legend in Peoria during the 18th-century whiskey business. Almiron was born in Boston, Massachusetts on October 18th, 1805. On January 18th, 1833 he married Chloe M. Brown. They had 7 kids together all, but one died at a young age. Mr. Cole heard from a friend of a city called Peoria. Capt. Cole liked what he heard, so he bought a team of Bif Norman horses, packed his stuff in a peddler's wagon, and left for Peoria in September of 1835. When he arrived in Peoria he started a store on Water Street. A man by the name Gardner Barker clerked for him and Cole the store to Barker two years after it opened. Mr. Cole was a passenger on a steamboat called the Frontier which was captained by Henry Detwiller.
