During the Roaring Twenties many people had, as William H. Leuchtenberg said, ‘“get-rich-quick”’, [Doc 2]. And man people did get rich quick. Everybody wanted a piece o the pie that was economic prosperity, but that pie has to run out eventually. With this idea in the heads of millions of Americans extreme overexpansion of many aspects of society led to the “adversity soon demonstrated,” [Doc 1]. John D. Hicks cites just some of the factors that “account for the plunge from prosperity to adversity”.
I think that many changes occurred during the time period of 1890-1920 because of innovation/invention, education, and social darwinism. I think that innovation and inventions caused changes during this time period because, all of these new things meant that way of lives could be changed for the better. Secondly, education caused changes in society because of the way the community was now thinking. Finally, social darwinism played a role in causing the changes that took place during this time period. Inventions and Innovation played a crucial part in creating change during the 2nd industrial revolution.
The most crucial change that occurred in the 1920s was the passing of the 19th Amendment. The 19th Amendment gave women the right to vote. Continuing the chain reaction, women found more opportunities for employment. For example, advertisers exploited sexual allure to sell everything, which many “old-timers” regarded as a veritable errotic eruption. Although a women’s lifestyle took a giant leap forward, African Americans were still in the same spot.
The anti-Communist and anti-immigration desires were pretty high and there was even new laws set up to keep outsiders away. From the 1800s to the 1850s the United States was permanently changed for the better with advancements in everyday life. This period of time was crucial for the development of the society that we live in today with the vast amount of inventions in this time period. Many Americans of this time period began to rely on these modernized inventions which seemed as though they were now necessities, giving Americans a new way of everyday life. If America did not undergo these changes we would not be where we are today in society. With such drastic changes in technology and social and political aspects, the United States was completely transformed during the antebellum period.
Some things that changed were that women had gained the right to vote, women held more jobs, and the great migration. In 1919 women got the right to vote, because of the ¾ vote from states, women felt they had more of a say in society due to men being at war. America saw many changes throughout this decade, including but not limited to social, economic and political changes. Throughout this time, new values were made with the growth of new forms of entertainment and education. After the Progressive Era, the ideas of political figures changed with a new focus on conservative politics and less labor issues. With the new ability for people to buy other products than basic needs, their money went to new inventions, causing new industries to grow.
