Millions of Jewish people were killed in concentration camps during the Holocaust. Many under the order of the commandants of the camps. One of the many commandants of the Nazi concentration camps was Amon Goeth. Goeth was a sadistic Nazi officer who was the Commandant of the Kraków-Płaszów concentration camp in Płaszów, Poland. Amon Goeth was conflicted between his sadistic side and his desire to be a humane person because he spared Jews, yet he still killed Jews, and wanted acceptance. Although Goeth killed many Jewish prisoners as Commandant of the Kraków-Płaszów concentration camp, he also spared many Jewish prisoners. The reason why Goeth started sparing prisoners was due to a conversation with Oskar Schindler at a party. At this party, Schindler told Goeth that power is having every justification to kill but you don’t. One example of Goeth sparing Jewish prisoners is when Goeth spared a Jewish boy after the boy laid Goeth’s saddle on the ground. Another is when a prisoner got caught smoking, the guards were going to kill the prisoner. However Goeth stopped the guards and told the prisoner to not do it again. This is shown in the Movie Schiendler’s List in several ways. One way that Goeth killed Jewish prisoners was by ordering people to be killed by the guards for doing something not allowed such as escaping or smoking. Another way Goeth killed Jewish prisoners was by simply shooting prisoners. Goeth shot these people for doing things wrong or not doing their job well enough. One example was Goeth killing a Jewish bow for simply not cleaning his bathtub with lye. Another is when Goeth killed an entire barracks of prisoners because one prisoner escaped from a work detail.
